The Power of Intention

The Universe has had an opportunity to laugh with me this week. In the late Spring as I headed for Graduation/Ordination, and the temperatures climbed in the Kansas City area, I was sure that I would not be spending another winter here. I packed all of our winter linens (flannel sheets, electric blanket, heavy wool blanket), and all of my winter clothes and shoes. These last two weeks the temperatures have gone between 60-80 during the day, and into the 40's at night. I wore sandals last week even though my feet were freezing. Monday I was head down into a wardrobe box this week looking for my winter shoes. Wes said he wished he'd had a camera. Next I'll be hunting for my long sleeved shirts. Oh well.

Last time I wrote to you, I had what I call a meltdown or the beginning of my own pity party. I hate to admit it, but when I was ordained in June the ordination certificate did not come with a halo, or with full instructions on how to live life as the perfect minister. So, I experienced a time of feeling separated from all that was important to me. Well, I'm here to tell you I have cleaned up the mess from that party and meltdown, and the sun is shining. What you are reading in this is my invitation for you to see that ministers, (yours, mine, and me) are human beings attempting to do the best we can, and sometimes it doesn't look too pretty. You can support us by your love and understanding, and believe me, I know how grateful I am for that.

Two things helped me that I would like to share with you that might help you sometime.
1) "The Power of Intention" by Dr. Wayne Dyer. Rev. Jennifer Holder invited me to speak at the church where she ministers in Manhattan, KS, on Sept 24th. She has been doing a series from this book, and asked me if I would be willing to speak from a part of the book during my talk. I had never read the book, so I thought it would help me to be able to give a better talk if I read the book first. (Good thought, don't you think?) Thank you, Jennifer, and thank You, God! If you haven't read this book I invite you to read it. What a powerful message.

2) Rev. Mary Omwake gave a talk at the church we attend, and spoke about a psychologist who helped to change the lives of patients in a criminally insane ward of a hospital without ever seeing them. What he did was read their charts, and work with his own healing of how he had contributed to who they were with his own consciousness. To each one of them he repeated over and over: "I'm sorry. I love you." (This works with the studies that have been done by Dr. David Hawkings about how our consciousness affects other people, and you can read about it in his book, "Power VS Force."

I continue to hold in prayer for my perfect place to minister, and have come to a realization that I want to start a ministry right now that I will continue even after we leave the Kansas City area. It is going to be a prayer ministry where I will be inviting people to email or send in prayer requests that will be held in confidence. Written prayer letters either by email or snail mail will be offered to lovingly support the requests. Prayer is an important part of who I am, and what I believe in. I know that a consistent prayer and meditation practice has brought me to where I am today. Wes is going to help me with a Web site for it, and we will keep you posted on the progress. The name of the ministry is "Positive Prayer." We appreciate your prayers as we work on the plans for this.
